Educational Philosophy

I am a student-centered educator committed to developing students' critical thinking capacity, personal autonomy, and empathy through innovative learning experiences.

Being a constructivist educator, I strongly believe that any reality people can imagine is one they are capable of creating. I believe education is an important pathway for creating imagined realities. This creative capacity is where progress comes from. In my 20 years in the classrooms of three continents I have contributed to the creativity and innovation of students and staff. In that time I have learned that embracing innovation requires boldness – the courage to take public risks, seek and use feedback, and incorporate learners into the process. This conceptualization of education is a heart-driven rather than ego-driven style of teaching and learning that requires a measure of calculated risk, comfort with the unknown, and a dedication to people and process. Being an effective educator means being on an endless journey of creating and recognizing value, of understanding and sharing meaning, and of working with passion in an ever-changing landscape of individual and community needs. I am empowered by the endless possibilities of my profession and am humbly grateful to share in the realities being made.
